Not so plastic Treacle

Treacle is determined to reduce single use plastic packaging, and be as plastic free as possible.

Do your bit by avoiding plastic bags. Bring your own basket or shop with a practical & useful Treacle Bag instead, available from the Butter Market. You will also find ethical reusable shoppers for sale inside St Michael’s Church.

Treacle Tote bags available throughout the market cost £1.50

Lets drive the plastic bag out of Treacle!

Please tell stall holders you appreciate them making the extra effort to avoid plastic bags & packaging.

What our traders say:

'I am now using 100% biodegradable bags for my plants. I used them last Treacle and customers were commenting on how glad they were that we had them.'

Oxeye Daisy

'When you buy a guitar made from old cigar boxes from me it comes in a repurposed grain sack!'

Packaging at Treacle

We have challenged our traders to reduce their single use plastic. Obviously it has been easier for some then others but as a result there has been a significant increase in the use of card instead of plastic food boxes, wooden cutlery instead of plastic, tissue instead of bubble wrap, paper instead of plastic bags. Recycled paper and card is more widely used with may traders being imaginitive and resourceful in making these changes.

'We have gone back to wrapping products in good old newspaper & no longer have any bubble wrap connected with the stall.'

Poodle retro

'We make our own bags from stitching old books from Charity Shops.'

'All my plates, bowls are plant derived and compostible. All my cutlery is wood and even my grease proof paper is plant based and 100% biodegradable.
